BECOMING A LEADER OR VOLUNTEER
Volunteering to work with a DofE group is very rewarding for you as well as helping young people to achieve a Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
The DofE relies on volunteers and without the support of the thousands of people who regularly give up their time we would not be able to offer opportunities to as many young people as we do.
There are many tasks that need carrying out and volunteers can usually find something that suits them whether it be working behind the scenes on committees, fundraising, assisting in an individual section or leading expeditions.
If you already know somewhere that offers the DofE the simplest way to get involved is to contact the Centre Co-ordinator and say you would like to get involved as a volunteer. If this is not possible just contact us on 01223 715492 or drop an email to: and we will do our best to find a centre that can provide what you are looking for.
Will I need to do any training?
This will depend on the skills and qualifications you already have and what you want to do. On a basic level all volunteers will need to complete a simple and informative online induction module which can be accessed free of charge at: https://www.dofe.org/dofetraining. (Note - make sure you have a printer connected to your computer when you do this module as you will need to print out a certificate at the end).
Both the DofE and Cambridgeshire County Council provide many training opportunities for leaders and volunteers to increase their skills and knowledge. These can be accessed once you have become a volunteer with one of our centres.
Details of current training opportunities provided by the DofE in the Central England Region can be found at:
New volunteers will also receive some "on-the-job" training from their DofE centre.
Is there a cost for training?
There is a cost involved in attending most training courses but many DofE centres are able to assist volunteers with this and some cover the cost completely.
